Hilda is a generously proportioned redhead first brought to life in 1958 by artist Duane Bryers. His Hilda calendars were popular throughout the 60s and are still collectable today. Duane Bryers is one of America's most gifted artists and has been for the better part of his ninety-four years on this planet. He earned a living as a commercial illustrator until his early fifties and gradually found himself garnering a nice amount of attention as a fine artists who specialized in western theme paintings.
A talented and successful painter, who settled in Sonoita, Arizona, Duane was raised in Virginia, Minnesota, Iron Range country, where one of his early paintings was a commissioned mural depicting the history of the mining industry of that area. He took the $3000. he earned from that project and went to New York City, where he did not achieve the quick success he expected but won a poster contest of the Museum of Modern Art.
javascript:void(0) Hilda is the most delightful, natural, beautiful woman - what a wonderful role model of happiness and playfulness and curiosity, combined with truly awesome self-love and awareness. The artist is a genius.
javascript:void(0) Hilda is great! Love it, but I find the difference as what is and was defined as "beauty" very interesting. Hilda is very beautiful, just goes to show how distorted our perspective has become over time.

javascript:void(0) Hilda is the epitome of a beautifull, confident, curious, funny woman. Who cares what size she is? So what if she has curves or not, the point is that the artist is showing her how HE sees her and regardless of what WE think of her, he obviously sees her for all of her qualities. I bet he doesn't even see her size, he sees all of her other qualities which he so lovingly depicts in his art. Fantastic uplifting beautiful art.

javascript:void(0) @feisty_girly : I couldn't agree with you more. this art is so free and real. Seeing Hilda so happy as she is is really uplifting and gives me more self confidence.
@Hiwaysniper : your comment and your user name are all that I need to know how incredibly naive and insensitive you are. You don't seem to have any respect for the individuals around you and I wouldn't be surprised if it came back to kick you a good one some day. I too am glad I have never met you and hope I never will, because if that ever happens it'll probably be the day when it does come back to kick you a good one with my assistance of course.

javascript:void(0) I wonder who Duane Bryers based Hilda on? A lover, his mother, his wife? Does it really matter? She has a timeless beauty, fantastic curves, and a touch of smuttyness without coarse sexual tension.
javascript:void(0) Seeing Hilda as happy as she is, makes me feel beautiful. I adore her!

javascript:void(0) This is fantastic! So life-like, funny and yet real. And the effort put in all these drawings, masterpieces ... the situations are so every-day ... well, it left me speechless. Duane Bryers is without doubt a real visionary! Well now I see what "old school" stands for ... devotion, passion, a good sense of humor and understanding life as such. And that slight tendency of sexy just makes you fall in love with Hilda :)
javascript:void(0) hiwaysniper, are you a guy? I mean, I can clearly see you're a troll, but I'm just wondering. ;)
In any case, you seem to be one of those that subscribe to the "ideal" of thin = beautiful. Do you have any idea how much physical and psychological damage that unattainable ideal has inflicted on women? Hilda represents a closer idea of what a woman's natural type is - females DO have body fat, and they ARE curvy. I, like many other comment posters here, wish there were images like Hilda in mainstream media, so women would stop hating their bodies so virulently.
But you apparently are the kind of person that finds images like this attractive, huh? :p

javascript:void(0) shutup ediots i hate it too but seriously that is not true
javascript:void(0) Thanks so much for posting this. Its great to see a plump pinup.

javascript:void(0) Wow, I normally can't stand pin-ups but these images make me so happy! I dislike that women are often portrayed as passive or expressionless in art, so it's great to see artwork that shows a female character who is portrayed as both sex AND as an interesting, full person in her own right. I love the humor in these illustrations! The personality of the character really shines. ^_^
javascript:void(0) I adore her hair. What a rich life she leads! I love her reading in the hammock.

javascript:void(0) Vida, you wouldn't know a beautiful body if you saw one! Hilda is perfection!

javascript:void(0) Hilda needs to go on a diet for her own health, she appears to be over weight and I'm concerned for her well being. I'm not commenting on her sex appeal, which is average, and if i was drunk id still pork her while she ate pork grinds. I'm just worried that at her rate, her cholesterol will be a problem, since it appears she eats nothing but butter and mayonnaise

javascript:void(0) I am soo gonna make a bikini outta flowers now!
javascript:void(0) i really love her! it's funny how now-a-days, many people would see her as "fat," "overweight," etc. but really, back in the '40s and '50s, this body type was considered beautiful and healthy; this was average. women didn't have to starve themselves to be liked. and i'm not saying they had to binge either, but just be happy with who they are. she looks happy. i mean, sure, she's a cartoon character, but why can't she be an example to follow, something that shows you that it's okay to be the way you are? i love her expressions in every single scene. fabulous job!

javascript:void(0) I love it, Hilda is so cheerful and inspiring for plump women :-)
javascript:void(0) She's absolutely beautiful! :) It's wonderful to see that the Classical-type, Rubenesque body was revived to a degree in the 1950s. More images like this would ensure it was revived again today!
You're twisted if you don't find this beautiful. She's so sexy- because of her body, not despite it.
