Portrait Photography by Tim Mantoani

Brooklyn, New York (September XX, 2009) The Farmani Gallery is honored to present photographer
Tim Mantoani and his extraordinary and on-going series, Behind Photographs: Archiving Photographic Legends. This special exhibition celebrates the Lucie Awards and features a sampling of previous and current Lucie Honorees. The show opens with an evening reception on Friday, October 16, 2009 and is an Official Event of Lucie Week.
Tim Mantoani’s on-going photographic series, “Behind Photographs,” is a testament to the talented men and women who have captured some of the most recognized photographic images of our time. The gifted individuals featured in this partial exhibit include past and present Lucie Honorees such as Marvin Newman, Elliot Erwitt, Harry Benson, Mary Ellen Mark, and Herman Leonard, to name a few. The overall project is dedicated to the talents who have forged innovative and inspirational ground over the past decades and the images that they have selflessly provided to all of us for generations to come.

Renowned photographer Mantoani's first real job out of college was photographing off-road racing. He's come a long way since, working for the likes of Coca Cola, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated, among other achievements. Here are some of his favorite sports shots, beginning with Lance Armstrong.

Tim remembers the moment he first held a 35mm camera in his hand and raised it to his eye to take a photograph of his high school counselor. His love of image-making drew him to Brooks Institute of Photography, where he specialized in advertising photography.
