Creative Portrait Photography by Pier Nicola D'Amico

Don't let the formality of Pier Nicola D'Amico's name fool you. Nic, as he's known to friends and clients alike, grew up skateboarding and spray-painting his way through the streets of Philadelphia. He eventually made his way to New York City to study at The Cooper Union School of Art. While there, Nic experimented with the formal and technical intersections between painting and photography. Little did he know that those early experiments would lead him to the development of an innovative photographic style that would put him on the vanguard of advertising photography today.

Nic came to commercial photography over twenty years ago. With all of those years of experience he's watched trends come and go and he's made it a point to be ahead of the curve by pushing the limits of his own style and the technology itself. When Nic embraced digital capture and post to augment the look of his photographs, the practice was in its nascent stages. Through his commitment to learning and his ambition to make compelling images, he now stands as one of the most stylish innovators of photography and the digital panoply.

It's no surprise then that Nic's clients greatly value his expertise both on set and in the digital studio. His command of the medium is as reassuring as it is exciting to the clients and assistants who get to witness Nic in action. With that said, Nic is not a fussy artiste, demanding his way or the highway. In fact, one of the things his clients appreciate most is his ability to listen and to distill their ideas into something truly effective, creative, iconic.

The creation of Nic's photographs is in many ways an artistic collaboration. Nic's interpretation sets the ball in motion, but the skill and expertise of his staff and most certainly the input of his clients all help to shape the look of the final photograph. Interestingly, but not surprisingly, Nic has developed a style that works for a vast array of subjects, from still life to supermodel, professional athlete to little old lady, politician to musical superstar. Under his skillful direction and artful handling, Nic transforms even the most common subject into a compelling and eye-catching work of art, deserving of the attention each one of his images so often receives.
